White Area and Reflection
White Area and Reflection, 2025, light and sound installation with 6 Moving Lights, Freie Akademie der Künste in Hamburg, Germany
INFO
The overarching question of the light, space and sound installation is how we use the means at our disposal. Lighting technology developed for brilliant stage shows and total distraction is repurposed here and transferred to a different context.
Fields of light move slowly across the surfaces of the hall, scanning them. Their shapes and brightness change. Sequences with sculptural, architectural, dance-like or painterly qualities question the space. Glare arises. Dark zones wander. Those present become part of the installation with their shadows.
Michael Veltman – organist and artistic director of the music department of the Kunst-Station Sankt Peter, Cologne – has created a piece of new music for this. The organ of Sankt Peter forms fragile shapes and open spaces with its extraordinary possibilities of sound shading and alienation.
